Porcelain Bird Figurine
Porcelain bird figurine pieces often incorporate the nesting characteristics of the species. The figurine may feature details such as a nest of twigs, sticks and grass. You can even occasionally find a parent bird feeding a nest full of babies with open mouths. Because of their fine detail, the collector will usually display only one or two pieces in an area to avoid overwhelming the senses of the viewer. It is very important to maintain these pieces well as a small chip or break can affect the overall impression.
Birds in flight
If perched birds are known for their detail, birds in flight are even more so. As the bird has to be lifted or suspended by only one or two contact points, it is hard to believe that the piece doesn’t collapse under its own weight. You may find a hummingbird in flight above a flower tasting the sweetness of the nectar. Sometimes you may have to look for the point where the bird is attached to the lower part of the sculpture. A porcelain bird figurine is fascinating both in the mechanical as well as the artistic aspects.
Choosing the bird
Perhaps the most difficult part of collecting porcelain bird figurine pieces is choosing which type of birds you want. The general category of birds is probably far too broad for most collectors. Yet, you may not find too many examples of falcons, eagles or larger birds. One nice subcategory is water birds. There are many fine examples of ducks, flamingos, geese and swans. Water birds are often depicted near a water source and that adds to its beauty. If you prefer to be very specific, pick a category such as robins or bluebirds as several artists have created products in these categories. Look for a figurine that captures the essence of the bird so you can be sure it will draw attention in your showcase.
